the Spirit forms a NEW community - Jews and Gentiles together

belief > repentance and baptism > the gift of the Spirit
The work of Christ, empowered by the Spirit sets the Church apart from the "crooked generation"

The Church is described as being devoted to the Apostles Teaching and as a result the Life of Christ is seen in them:
power of God to affirm the authority of the Apostles
justice and mercy to those in need
joyful gatherings with food
worship
>>>> this is attractive to some (vs 47)

The Lord's purpose for the church is to be a witness (by the Spirit, through the Word, with prayer) telling others of the New Life found in Jesus.

The message is authenticated (verified) by the life of the community:
Acts 4:32-33, 5:42, 6:7
- action (what they do is in line with their teaching)
- growth (discipleship and teaching is a part of their lives)
- proclamation (the Gospel is shared boldly)

The Church (INDWELLED BY THE SPIRIT) is the first fruit of the Kingdom of God (Romans 8:23)
- more is coming (Ephesians 1:13-14)
- a deposit is better than an IOU
- this introduction to the Kingdom (powerful but not yet complete) is what the Jews could not understand
- Now is the time for the Church to embrace its job as Witness and Life changed lives by the power of the Spirit
