Confidence

John 14:10-12

Jesus did not go around labeling Himself. He knew that His identity rested in His relationship to His heavenly Father and He did not buy into any of the labels others tried to give Him.

"Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves."

Why was Jesus so confident? He knew who he was...it dictated his purpose and his life...

our identity is in question...we live based on making other people happy

Confidence: "don't you know?" Contentment

Purpose: life and work; Jesus' work becomes our work: passed it on

Effective: empowered by the Spirit

Peace: no confusion chaos or drama

the Scripture encourage us to "transform our minds," to "put off the old" and to "put on the new". The Scriptures encourage us to, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross" (Philippians 2:5-8).

then having been transformed, we can join Him, fulfilling His purpose, walking in light and Life

not stuck in the past but looking forward

Identity Comes from Christ and not our shortcomings

This is how the kingdom of God advances through his people: people finding their identity in Christ and in His work
